On the off chance that youre taking the TOEFL or the TOEIC and need to finish a composing evaluation, at that point read these directions for arranging an extraordinary five-section article in English. Passage One: The Introduction This first passage, comprised of 3-5 sentences, has two purposes: catching the perusers eye, and giving the primary concern (theory) of the entire exposition. To get the perusers consideration, your initial hardly any sentences are vital. Utilize graphic words, a story, a striking inquiry or a fascinating actuality identified with your point to attract the peruser. To express your central matter, your last sentence in the primary passage is critical. Your initial hardly any sentences of the presentation essentially present the subject and catch the perusers eye. The last sentence of the presentation mentions to the peruser your opinion of the appointed subject and records the focuses that youre going to expound on in the essay.Heres a case of a decent early on passage given the point, Do you figure adolescents ought to have employments while they are still understudies?: Ive worked since the time I was twelve. As an adolescent, I cleaned houses for my relatives, made banana parts at a frozen yogurt parlor, and tended to tables at different cafés. I did everything while at the same time conveying an entirely passing mark point normal in school, as well! I certainly accept that young people ought to have employments while they are still understudies in light of the fact that a vocation shows discipline, wins them money for school, and keeps them in the clear. Sections Two - Four: Explaining Your Points Once youve expressed your theory, you need to account for yourself! The proposal in the model presentation was I certainly accept that adolescents ought to have employments while they are still understudies in light of the fact that an occupation shows discipline, procures them money for school, and keeps them in the clear. The activity of the following three sections is to clarify the purposes of your proposition utilizing measurements, models from your life, writing, the news or different spots, realities, models, and stories. Passage Two: Explains the principal point from your postulation: Teenagers ought to have occupations while they are still understudies in light of the fact that work educates discipline. Passage Three: Explains the second point from your postulation: Teenagers ought to have occupations while they are still understudies on the grounds that a vocation gains them money for school. Passage Four: Explains the third point from your postulation: Teenagers ought to have employments while they are still understudies on the grounds that a vocation keeps them in the clear. In every one of the three passages, your first sentence, called the theme sentence, will be the point youre clarifying from your postulation. After the theme sentence, youll compose 3-4 additional sentences clarifying why this reality is valid. The last sentence should progress you to the following point. Heres a case of what passage two would resemble: To start with, youngsters ought to have occupations while they are still understudies in light of the fact that a vocation instructs discipline. At the point when I was working at the frozen yogurt store, I needed to appear each day on schedule or I would have gotten terminated. That showed me how to keep a calendar, which is a major piece of learning discipline. As I cleaned the floors and washed the windows of my relatives homes, I realized they would determine the status of me, so I endeavored to give a valiant effort, which showed me a significant feature of order, which is meticulousness. Yet, being taught isnt the main explanation its a smart thought for young people to work during school; it can likewise acquire the cash! Passage Five: Concluding the Essay Once youve composed the presentation, clarified your primary concerns in the body of the article, changing pleasantly between them all, your last advance is to finish up the paper. The end, comprised of 3-5 sentences, has two purposes: to recap what youve expressed in the paper, and leave an enduring impact on the peruser. To recap, your initial hardly any sentences are critical. Repeat the three significant purposes of your paper in various words, so you realize the peruser has comprehended where you stand. To leave an enduring impression, your last sentences are vital. Leave the peruser with something to consider before completion the section. You could attempt a statement, an inquiry, an account, or just an unmistakable sentence. Heres a case of an end: I cannot represent any other individual, yet my experience has instructed me that having work while being an understudy is a generally excellent thought. In addition to the fact that it teaches individuals to have character in their lives, it can give them the apparatuses they have to succeed like cash for school educational cost or a decent notoriety. Certainly, its difficult to be a youngster without the additional weight of an occupation, yet with all the advantages of having one, its too significant not to make the penance. Like Mike would state, Just do it. huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-13585783869418753222020-08-22T08:02:00.001-07:002020-08-22T08:02:04.848-07:00Introduction to Psychology Essay ExamplePrologue to Psychology Essay Prologue to Psychology Introduction to the Unit diagram This unit centers around understanding mental hypothesis and its application to life. Listener numbers are increasing and successful podcasts have caught the attention of marketers. So, what can this medium offer to businesses? © Shutterstock.com | Africa StudioIn this guide, youâll learn about the benefits of podcast advertising. Weâll discuss how podcast advertising works, including the industry standards in terms of ad placement, length and pricing. Furthermore, weâll give you tips on how to find podcasts as an advertiser, and well explain how you can acquire advertising if you are producing a podcast. Finally, weâll give you tips on what makes a great podcast ad to ensure your advertising success.WHY SHOULD BUSINESSES CARE ABOUT PODCAST ADVERTISING?To understand podcast advertising, you need to understand what podcasts are. The Oxford Dictionary defines a podcast as:âA digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or a mobile device, typically available as a series, new instalments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.âThe digital advertising industry has become an increasingly diverse and competitive place. Todayâs businesses canât r ely purely on traditional advertising methods, but must pay attention to new channels. Podcast advertising is definitely among the best digital advertising alternatives and could prove to be a useful tool for many businesses.First, the industry provides businesses the opportunity to reach a fast-growing audience. According to data, the proportion of Americans listening to a podcast almost doubled from 2008 to 2015. In 2008, around 9% of Americans tuned in to listen to podcasts, but by 2015, the audience number had grown to 17% and the trend is clearly an upward trend.Successful podcast shows can also attract impressive listener numbers. In 2014, a podcast about a reinvestigation of a murder case called Serial became the fastest podcast to reach 5 million downloads on iTunes. Edison Research also found the average podcast listener listens to about six podcast shows a week, so the audience isnât just interested in a single show. In fact, Americans listen to around 21.1 million hours of podcasts every day.In terms of business opportunities, the research also found podcast audiences to be affluent, with the average household income reaching $75,000 or more in 2015. This could be great news for advertisers, as listeners might have higher willingness to spend money on interesting products. Furthermore, podcast users are active on social media, which could be used as a marketing advantage.Second, podcast audiences tend to be dedicated and find the showâs hosts trustworthy and relatable. Unlike radio listeners, who often skip ads by changing the channel, podcast listeners tend to listen through ads. The secret often lies in the way podcast ads (the good ones!) relate directly to the content of the show and therefore, add another dimension for the listener. Podcast advertising is often more about the hostâs endorsement of the product rather than being a filler for the show.According to Midroll, the digital media company, 63% of their podcast listeners have purcha sed a product, which was advertised on a podcast. Furthermore, around 71% of the listeners visited the advertiserâs website. This is encouraging news for businesses planning to venture into the world of podcasting, especially as the banner blindness phenomenon means Internet users are tuning out of traditional website banners.Furthermore, businesses shouldnât only be interested in podcast advertising as the advertiser. An entrepreneur or a business could potentially benefit from hosting their own podcast, with ads adding additional revenue to your podcasting venture. By improving your podcast, you can obtain more listeners and attract advertisers, which all will lead to an increased revenue stream.Overall, the podcast advertising industry is growing rapidly. According to eMarketerâs data, the US podcast advertising spending (advertising and sponsorship) stood at $165 million in 2007. By 2012, predicted growth was thought to stand at $435 million. The opportunities in the secto r are rapidly increasing and early adopters can expect to benefit from the continued growth of the medium.HOW PODCAST ADVERTISING WORKS?Podcasts are another digital medium for sharing information, news and ideas in a more social media type of environment. The content of todayâs podcasts ranges from film and music to business and education. Anyone can create a podcast â" you simply need a computer and audio content â" which means businesses are sure to find a podcast show related to their product or service. The premise of podcast advertising is similar to any other advertising on websites or even radio. A business will create an ad, which the podcast host plays during the recording. Before we look at the industry standards for podcast advertising in terms of length and the number of ads, itâs important to understand who has the power of choosing the ads. In fact, podcast hosts shouldnât simply accept any ad offers nor should businesses target podcast hosts randomly. Instead, p odcast ads should be directly related to the content or at least offer something to the particular listener group. Therefore, the power to choose which ads are suitable often lies in the hands of the host. If you are approaching a podcast host as a business, this is vital information to understand. Furthermore, as a host, you shouldnât accept offers purely for the sake of added revenue.Letâs now turn our attention to the industry standards of podcast ads and how to find podcast shows as a business or to acquire ads as a podcast.Whatâs the proper length of podcast ads? When it comes to industry standards, podcast ads tend to be relatively short. The ad structure typically involves two separate ad slots. These are:Pre-roll, which is a short 15-second ad slot played at the start of the podcast.Mid-roll, which is a longer 60-second ad often played at the middle of the podcast. You can also have a sponsored ad right at the end of the show, although these are rare. During the outro th e host might ask the audience to call the business or visit their website. But outro-rolls tend to be less popular because audiences can easily tune out of the show as soon as they understand the podcastâs unique content has ended. The ad slots can be either produced ads by the business or the host can read out the content of the ad. This can vary from podcast to podcast and youâll need to think which option better suits the podcast and the business message.Aside from the above, the advertising can also be a sponsored message by the host. This would mean the host talks about his or her own experience with your business or a moment where the host shares a story relating to the product. How many ads should a podcast have?Considering the benefits of podcast advertising and the relatively short length of them, you might be surprised to find the industry standard for the number of ads falls around 2-4 per podcast episode. This might seem like a minuscule number, but itâs due to the n ature of podcast advertising.Podcast ads should be enhancing the content of the podcast and be of a tangible interest to the listener. Therefore, finding the ads that fall into this category might be difficult. Whilst there might be a number of suitable businesses interested, they often offer similar products and services. Itâs unlikely businesses want to advertise in a podcast together with five of their direct competitors.Furthermore, podcast are typically compact shows designed for listening during the way to work or while doing household chores. If you start adding ten 60-second ads to a podcast, the length will naturally increase. If you start cutting from the content in order to do so, the listeners might feel like the show isnât worth listening to anymore. The show might seem boring with minutes worth of ads and listeners will simply move on to another podcast.By including over five ads to a podcast, the show runs a real risk of alienating its listeners. Listeners can sta rt losing trust to the host and the advertised product. If the ad number keeps increasing, listeners can easily feel like the host is adding the ads simply to make money, not to mention interesting and beneficial products. The pricing model for podcast adsThere are generally three different routes to pricing podcast ads and sponsorships. These include:Cost per mille (CPM) â" Under this model, the price is determined per thousand listens. For every thousand podcasts listened, the advertiser will pay a certain amount.Cost per acquisition (CPA) â" This model defines the price as the cost to acquire a single customer. Therefore, each time the podcast directs a customer to the business, the business pays a pre-determined fee to the host.Freely negotiated price â" This model is simply a negotiated price between the podcast host and the business. The model typically sees the podcast host suggesting a price, with the business either accepting or rejecting it.There are pros and cons to ea ch of the above models. The CPM model tends to be the industry favourite. But if you are targeting a podcast, which neatly fits a specific product you sell, then CPA can also be beneficial due to a higher sales conversion rate. Finally, if you are discussing with a new podcast, then you should consider negotiating the terms. In order to determine the right CPM and CPA rates, you should pay attention to the current podcast listener numbers. For example, examine the last two months of the podcastâs listens and see the average minimum listeners you can attract. This number provides you a good indication of the CPM. According to New York Magazineâs research, the typical CMP for podcasts stood between $20 and $45 in 2014.Below is a video for determining the CPA. Whilst the video mainly talks about online links and clicks, the same formula can be beneficial for determining your CPA for podcast advertising. Finally, itâs normal to renegotiate the prices regularly. This is important, a s the listenership of the podcast can change radically within a few weeks. Determining the time for price renegotiations beforehand is especially important in the case of a new podcast. How to find a podcast for your ad or acquire ads? Finally, itâs time to explore the different ways to finding or acquiring podcast ads.Step 1: Finding a podcastIf you are a business considering podcast advertising, finding the right show is crucial for marketing success. The following section deals with what makes an auspicious podcast ad, but itâs important to focus on matching your business with a good podcast. You want your business to add tangible content and benefits to the podcast and its listeners. Therefore, define the kind of podcast you want to attract before you start looking. For example, if you sell gardening products, you should target different horticulture and environmental shows. The best places to start looking are the different podcast directories. The most popular ones include:iTu nesPodnovaPodBeanBrowse these directories and the categories relating to your business product and service. Once you find interesting matches, listen to the podcast to get a better feel of the show. You should also pay attention to the ranking of the show and find out whether itâs active on social media. This can reveal the showâs appeal and listener numbers. If it feels like a good match, contact the host directly and ask whether they are interested in a partnership deal.An additional quirky way of finding podcasts could be through your own customers. Use social media to ask for podcast recommendations and to attract potential hosts to your business.Step 2: Finding an advertiserIf you are hosting a podcast show, you could also take the lead and contact suitable businesses to offer advertising slots. In order to do so, you should first pay attention to building a solid audience. Donât rush in to find advertisers, as businesses are unlikely to be interested if you canât prese nt attractive listenership numbers. Since the industry is becoming a key interest for businesses, by building a popular podcast, you are likely to automatically start attracting offers from businesses. There are specific podcast advertising networks you should consider checking out. Sites such as Midroll and RadioTail can connect your show with suitable advertisers.Additionally, you can also contact businesses yourself. Define the type of businesses your listeners would find beneficial and interesting, and start searching candidates on business directories.WHAT MAKES A GOOD PODCAST AD?Podcast advertising offers tremendous opportunities for businesses. However, like with any advertising medium, the quality of the ad plays a key role for success. In fact, the difference between a good and a bad podcast ad can mean the difference between a successful show and a disaster. Because listeners make a decision to download and listen to a podcast, bad advertising in the podcast can turn off li steners and sink the whole show.If you want to create a successful podcast ad, you must focus on three key points: a short and sweet message, a creative and changing ad, and a proper understanding of the audience.A short and sweet messageAs previously stated, podcast ads tend to vary between 15 to 60 seconds. This might seem like a short amount of time, but a longer ad and listeners start nodding off. If you increase the length of the ad above this limit, listeners may press the fast-forward button and therefore miss the whole ad.Furthermore, do you need more than 60 seconds to pitch your product? Remember the essence of the elevator pitch used with investors and apply the same rules to your podcast ad. You shouldnât need an hour to attract a customer to your product. By keeping it brief, you can guarantee more people listen to it and that you focus on the reasons the listener should buy the product.A creative and changing adWhile podcast listeners are used to listening to short a ds during the show, the message they hear shouldnât remain the same each time. If the ad is always the same, after a few podcasts listeners are unlikely going to feel positively about your business or the podcast.Consider the ad as an opportunity to highlight the various benefits of your product or service. Although you should be able to sell your product in 60 seconds or less, that amount of time is unlikely going to be enough to list all the reasons for buying the product. For example, if you sell a beauty product, you could highlight the uses in different situations. Perhaps itâs the perfect item to take with you when travelling or itâs a lifesaver when you are late for work. You could even have different customers talking about the product for each ad.Finally, donât forget to modify the ad according to different seasons or holidays. You can add variety to your advertisement by including Christmas-elements during December or by creating a special ad for the Valentineâs D ay.Understand the audienceFinally, its crucial to understand the audience. The ad must always fit to the actual podcast and be of interest to the audience listening to it.First, ensure the product or service being advertised relates to the content of the podcast. Second, you need to focus on moulding the ad around the typical listener, in terms of language. This is all down to the typical podcast audience, which is often a tightly defined group of people with specific interests and knowledge. For example, if you are advertising your camera products on a photography-related podcast, the audience will be aware of industry jargon. You therefore donât want to sell your products as you would with a complete beginner. Remember, these listeners are listening to the podcast because they already share passion for photography and are probably well aware of different features good cameras have.THE BOTTOM LINEPodcast advertising is definitely a beneficial tool for businesses, whether you host your own podcast or are looking for new advertising channels. The industry is on the rise and you can reach a dedicated and passionate audience through this medium.Make sure to understand the industry standards and negotiate a deal, which is beneficial to your business, whether you are a podcast host or the advertiser. Overall, the key to a successful podcast advertising campaign lies in finding the right partnerships and creating ads, which put the listener to the forefront. Always find a podcast or an advertiser, which is a perfect match for the content and adds real value to the listener and the potential customer. huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-72975141958471407772020-05-24T10:00:00.001-07:002020-05-24T10:00:03.518-07:00The Internet And Its Effects On The World - 941 Words Ever since the internet was established it has become a never ending source of information spread worldwide. In Joseph Conrads lifetime, little objectiveness was made over his 1899 novella Heart of Darkness. Be that as it may, Throughout the span of the previous century, Conrads once-dark work about a man, Marlow, traveling down the Congo River, has turned out to be a standout amongst the most studied and most examined pieces of literature. It remains today, a standout amongst the most omnipresent things in school course syllabi around the United States and with it comes a varying range of perspectives, studies, and emotions. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Dark Colonialism and Racism in Heart of Darkness" essay for you Create order This novella, which likely has Conrads numerous endowments as an author, has been perused as a scorching evaluate of European colonialism in Africa. It makes a point, all things considered, of demonstrating the dangerous impacts the colonial exertion has on the mind of both its storyteller and its focal point, Kurtz. It goes to lengths to scrutinize the prudence of ill-natured Europeans. So intensely installed in the social cognizance of the book. Which is all to state that its not astounding that such a generally perused work ought to be the subject of a lot of controversies. For this situation, the controversy begins with how Conrads writings are frequently proclaimed as a triumph of anti-colonial estimation, it is indeed, just as racist as you would ordinarily expect nineteenth-century writings on Africa to be. However Conrad contemplates everybody he writes about, he portrays Europeans as the victims of colonization notwithstanding its culprits. To mind, the willfully vague and strange depictions that Conrads narrator uses to portray the general population and culture he experiences on his outing exhibit, rather than presenting a particularly optimistic or particularly pessimistic portrait of Africa and its culture, there is no representation of the portrait by any means. By privileging the European viewpoint, stating nothing by making every single African character basically mute and having indistinguishable masses of eeriness, Conrad reaffirms the regular story of Europes predominance over Africa. In any case, for Marlow as much with respect to Kurtz or for the Company, Africans in this book are for the most part seen as objects. Marlow alludes to his helmsman as a piece of machinery, and Kurtzs African mistress is, best case scenario a bit of statuary. It very well may be contended that Heart of Darkness takes part in a persecution of nonwhites that is significantly viler and a lot harder to cure than the open maltreatment of Kurtz or the Companys men.It ought to be maintained a strategic distance from the Europeans due to its otherness, its mysteriousness, and its assumed mediocre-ness. While readers may sensibly blame Conrad for tending to the topic of personal racism and bigotry while disregarding principal presumptions of European superiority incorporated within the structure of the book, there are differences that raise imperative questions concerning how and why we read. Extraordinary novelists like James Joyce and F. Scott Fitzgerald in some cases peppered racial slurs into their writings, and poor demeanors toward women abound throughout the commencement of writing, yet we are, presumably appropriate ly, detest to surrender to Ulysses (1922) and The Great Gatsby (1925). At what point does a specific delineation or portrayal go from incidentally offensive to possibly ruinous? How would we analyze the legislative issues of a masterpiece in a way that is reasonable for both writer and reader? Do we read essentially to be engaged and entertained, or do the books we perused unpretentiously shape our perspectives? Regardless of whether history eventually chooses that Heart of Darkness is too racist to possibly be extraordinary writing or too incredible to possibly be bigoted, we can, at any rate, express gratitude toward it for forcing readers and researchers to go up against their own suspicions about literature. huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-16104723970154519772020-05-06T13:55:00.001-07:002020-05-06T13:55:52.264-07:00Constitucion Casa Mac Iver, Chile Free Essays string(93) " Crespones La Familia Mac Iver Ubicada en plena ciudad, la casa Mac Iver es todo un simbolo\." Knight Axia College of University of Phoenix CRT 125 Cultural Diversity Ms. Sandra Collins April 12, 2007 African American Migration New Societies, new people, and new communities usually originate as a result of migration. People decide to move from one place to another for better opportunities, better lives, and new challenges. This remains true for the African American race as well. It has been believed that the original migration took place in 1619 when African Americans arrived to Jamestown, Virginia. However, the first African Americans migrated to the United States almost a century earlier in the 1500ââ¬â¢s coming from Mexico and the Caribbean to the Spanish territories of Florida, Texas, and other parts of the South. African-American Migration Experience Though many migrated to the U. S. voluntarily, most African Americans were victims of massive enslavement. War, slave raiding, kidnapping and political religious struggle accounted for the vast majority of Africans deported to the Americas. African Americans were forced into slavery. Many children were kidnapped and sold as slaves. There were those of which who rebelled by refusing to be enslaved that would be expelled from their homes and families then either murdered or forced to be slaves. Slavery developed because the Northern Africans had a monopoly over spices, gold, and other commodities that the Europeans wanted. Europe would send ships back and forth to Africa to trade goods and in the process they were able to grow comfortable with navigating the seas. As a result, Europe was able to develop very good shipbuilding skills that in turn led to the sending of large vessels. That moved the Portuguese to add an additional commodity to their cargo: African men, women, and children. The Portuguese then used African Americans as slaves to work their sugar plantations. Over time English and Dutch ships preyed on the Portugal vessels for slaves, while raiding and looting the African mainland. Slaves were brought to the United States of America during the triangular trade. Ships were built to handle a maximum of 350 people, but Europeans would transport over 800 men, women, and children under some of the harshest conditions. Slaves would be branded, stripped naked during the entire trip, lying down in the midst of filth, all while enduring unbearable heat. All slaves went through frightening, incredibly brutal and dehumanizing experiences. Women and children were raped for the pleasures of the crew. The sick were tossed overboard unto the sea. People who tried to starve themselves to death were forced to eat by the torturing of scolding hot coal pressed onto their bodies. African-American Migration Experience Those who survived the Middle Passage arrived to America only to encounter more grief. They were sent to plantations and farms for agricultural duties. They were used for mining, and placed in towns as servants. In South Carolina and Georgia they grew rice, cotton, and indigo. In Louisiana they slaved over sugarcane plantations. They labored over tobacco farms in Virginia and Maryland. This went on until 1808 when the United States abolished its slave trade from Africa. However, slave trade went on unabated until 1860. In 1898 the boll weevil ate its way through Texas and proceeded to eat its way East across the South. The cotton was destroyed and slaves were thrown off of the land. After WWI there was an economic boom that resulted in the need for agricultural work, but unfortunately most states in the South passed the Jim Crow laws that discriminated against African Americans and led to segregation. African Americans couldnââ¬â¢t attend the same schools as white Americans. They couldnââ¬â¢t use facilities such as restaurants, theaters, hotels, cinemas, and public baths. Public transportation was also segregated and in some states marriage between white and black people. African Americans were at the mercy of landlords, abusive employers, and almost anyone set on depriving them of their rights. This went on until president Franklin D. Roosevelt was forced to issue an executive order mandating the end to racial discrimination. The Fair Employment Practices Committee was created to enforce this mandate, which acted as the launching pad that would bare dividends in the future. Riots erupted in 1943, leading to beatings, deaths, and arrest. African American then resulted to boycotts and sit-ins during the Civil Rights movement. As a result, the Supreme Court reversed the separate but equal doctrine in 1954, ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. There was also the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act that signaled an attack on Jim Crow. The African-American Migration Experience This report reveals the enormous amount of pain, grief, and violence suffered by my ancestors during slavery. I am so appreciative to all those people who marched, boycotted, and endured the pain and suffering so that my children and I could have the freedom to eat in any restaurant, sleep at any hotel, drink water out of any fountain, and go to school to get a good education. I may not be able to relate culturally to the ethnic group that I have written about because I am way too young, but that doesnââ¬â¢t change the fact that I recognize what they fought and stood for and I plan to make sure that my children are taught the history of how African Americans migrated to the United States, and what they went through to get here. It is necessary for these disorders to be studied not only as psychological problems, but also as social problems and a chronology of experiences related to these problems should be made so that studies can be conducted to facilitate their cure. It is a fact that these conditions are extremely difficult to treat because it is often difficult to make an assessment of how the people affected by anorexia and bulimia behave as well as how to find ways of curing different individuals from these conditions (Lacey 1694). Among the greatest causes of anorexia and bulimia are the societal expectations that are pressed on those individuals affected by these conditions. Many of the patients with these conditions tend to have been brought up in an environment where the need to succeed and to excel in every aspect of their lives has led them to develop such a low opinion of themselves that they have developed an obsession with their bodies. One will find that the drive for these patients to succeed is so great and the societal expectations placed on them so great that the pressure becomes too much on them and these tend to affect them negatively as they try to fulfill these expectations. The mentors of these patients are often perfectionists and because the patients would like to emulate every aspect of their lives, the pressure to do so becomes very demanding because in order to impress their mentors, they often set such unreasonable goals for themselves that to achieve these goals becomes overwhelming for them. It is also a fact that anorexia and bulimia patients are often raised in environments where they are not given the required attention while growing up and this comes to affect them in later life (Strober et al, 394). This comes about because their parents are probably always too busy attempting to make a living f or their families and have not enough time to get to know their families better, creating a situation where their children grow up in isolation. Such environments end up making the children involved to develop low self-esteem which is one of the reasons for the development of anorexia and bulimia, and their increasing prevalence. Statistics show that while anorexia and bulimia are disorders that are more prevalent in upper classes of the society, there are also increasing cases of these disorders in the other strata of society and this trend is most worrying (Chakraborty and Basu 175). It has been stated that main reason for the prevalence of these conditions among the upper class is because of the higher expectations that are set for the members of such families and their feeling of inadequacy because of the fact that they are not able to fulfill these expectations. In the lower classes, on the other hand, it has been found that one of the most prevalent causes of anorexia and buli mia is the fact that the patients tend to be influenced by the media, especially that of perfection that is propagated by Hollywood as well as other forms of mass media. The increasing prevalence of anorexia and bulimia in society has made it necessary for all individuals within it to be made aware of the symptoms so that they can get a hint of the development of huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-73236046289014252842020-01-27T14:22:00.001-08:002020-01-27T14:22:03.283-08:00Strategic Planning And Development Of Addidas Marketing EssayStrategic Planning And Development Of Addidas Marketing Essay According to Data monitor Adidas is among the leading players in the global sporting goods industry. The group is the leading sporting goods group in Germany, France and Japan, the most important markets outside the US. Adidas, through Reebok, has also a strong position in the US. The acquisition of Reebok has helped Adidas gain a 20% share of the US athletic footwear market. However leading market position help Adidas gain competitive advantage in market and brand loyal customers and Adidass high brand equity enables it to attract more customers. The 2010 FIFA World Cup was a big success for Adidas. The company had a supreme presence at the event with twelve teams including the host nation in the finals, combined with its status as official sponsor, supplier and licensee. The event had a great effect on the Adidas brand overall due to its unprecedented scale of media coverage. As of June 21, 2010 (almost ten days after the competition began), the company achieved record breaking sales, predicting sales of soccer-related merchandise at least $2.2 billion, surpassing the $1.9 billion obtained in football sales in 2008. Adidas markets its products through an extensive marketing infrastructure. The group offers its products through its own retail stores and franchised stores. However extensive marketing infrastructure helps Adidas to reach a wide range of customers and eventually expand its size of the market. According to Data monitor the group has geographically-diversified operations. It operates in Europe, North America, Asia and Latin America. Moreover, the group has balanced revenue mix in terms of revenue generated from various geographical locations. However this means Adidas can acquire greater economies of scale with its geographically diversified operations. Adidas has sponsorship agreements for major sports events across the globe. The company has a sponsorship agreement with the Japan Football Association until March 2015 and with the Australian Olympic Committee until 2016. It also secured sponsorship rights to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In addition, in 2009, Adidas extended its partnership with UEFA for the UEFA EURO 2012 and UEFA EURO 2016 football championships, as well as for the UEFA Champions League. The company has also signed an 11-year global merchandising partnership agreement (beginning with the 2006-2007 season) with the National Basketball Association (NBA). This deal makes Adidas the official uniform and apparel provider for the NBA, the Womens National Basketball Association and the NBA Development League. Additionally, Adidas is also the Official Sportswear Partner to 2012 Olympics in London. Sponsorship of major sports events would help the company to strengthen its profitability and enhance its brand recall among consu mers. Government and other organisations are highly promoting active lifestyle to fight obesity and various diseases. According to the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF), more than 600 million adults were considered obese in 2010. An additional 1.0 billion were estimated to be overweight. This development has serious health consequences and a dramatic effect on health care expenditures. So this issue might bring new opportunity for Adidas. 3. Women Segment Offers Long Term Potential: Till date most of the Adidas revenue comes from the men segment. But in the upcoming days the women segment is showing more potential for Adidas. Adidas should focus on this segment by creating new products and design for womens. 4. Growing global footwear market: According to Data Monitor the global footwear market has shown positive growth in recent years. The global footwear market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 4% in the six-year period 2005-2011 to reach $202.3 billion in 2011. So this is a major opportunity for Adidas to explore itself globally which will result in increase sales and revenues and ultimately gives the group chance to catch the global market. Threats: 1. Macroeconomic Risks: Growth in the sporting goods industry is highly dependent on consumer spending and consumer confidence. Economic downturns, socio-political factors such as civil unrest, nationalisation, in particular in regions where the Group is highly represented, therefore cause a significant short-term risk to sales development. 2. Consumer Demand Risk: Nowadays consumers are more choosy and its quiet difficult to predict their demand. So therefore it is essential to maintain a balance between the supply and demand. Failure to anticipate and respond to changes in consumer demand for sporting goods products is one of the most serious threats for Adidas. 3. Customer Bargaining Power: Nowadays markets are more buyers dominated. The bargaining power of customer is rising rapidly because of intense competition between the suppliers. This issue can harm on Adidas overall business operations. 4. Intense Competition: The athletic footwear, apparel and equipment industry is highly competitive. Adidas group competes with players such as Nike, Callaway Golf Company, New Balance Athletic Shoe, and PUMA AG Rudolf Dazzler Sport. High level of competition in the market place could negatively impact the market share of the group. (Data monitor, 2010). 6. Adidas AG: Strategy Adidas has `diversified its strategy in three dimensions. They are: 1. Group Strategy. 2. Global Brands Strategy. 3. Global Sales Strategy. 1. Group Strategy: 1.1 Creating Shareholder Value: Adidas is trying to create more value for its shareholders through generation of cash flow. Therefore, Adidas AG is focused on carefully managing those factors under its control, making strategic choices that will drive sustainable revenue and earnings growth, and ultimately cash flow. 1.2 Multi Brand Strategies: To maximise customer reach with variety of choice Adidas has adapted multi brand strategy. 1.3 Investments focused on highest potential markets and channels: Adidas has prioritised its investments based on those markets which offer the best medium to long-term growth and profitability opportunities. In this respect, we continue to place a considerable emphasis on expanding our activities in the emerging markets, particularly China and Russia. 2. Global Brand Strategy: 2.1 Driving the long-term development of Adidas and Reebok: To secure long-term sustainable growth for the Group, Global Brands is focused on driving the development of the Adidas and Reebok brands. The overall strategic goal is to achieve qualitative, sustainable growth by building desirable brands in consumers and customers perception. 2.2 Brand architecture and differentiation: Adidas multi-brand structure gives them an important competitive advantage. Through its brand architecture, It seamlessly cover the consumer segments they have defined, catering to more consumer needs, while at the same time keeping clarity of brand message and values. 3. Global Sales Strategy: The global sales function is responsible for the commercial activities of Adidas. The functions is categorised in three distinctive channel retail, wholesale and e-commerce. 3.1 Focus on Controlled Space To make its products more competitive Adidas has adapted several techniques. As a result they are refining their distribution channel with stronger focus on controlled space which includes e-commerce, own retail store, mono branded franchise stores, partnership with retail stores etc. Focusing on Three Attack Markets: As a part of strategic business plan route 2015 the global sales function has identified North America, Russia, UK, Latin America, Greater China, Japan and India as key growth markets. Among them North America, China and Russia are anticipated to contribute over 50% of total sales. To ensure the efficiency of these markets they directly report to the group CEO. 7. Concluding Thoughts Based on the above information this assignment would conclude that Adidas is one of the largest companies in the sporting goods industry. The group operates through more than 150 subsidiaries in Europe, the US and Asia, each focusing on a particular market or part of the manufacturing process. To be concluded Adidas has a priorities SWOT analysis with leading market position as its biggest strength and Geographically-diversified operations enable Adidas to take advantage of a range of market opportunities huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-70683796358835891252020-01-19T10:46:00.001-08:002020-01-19T10:46:02.705-08:00Isolation of Clove OilObjective The objective of this experiment is to perform a steam distillation using a microscale distillation apparatus and isolate a natural product from cloves. Introduction By performing steam distillation we can isolate eugenol at lower temperature than its usual boiling point of 248 degree Celsius. Eugenol belongs to a category called essential oil. Many of these compounds are used as flavoring and perfumes and in the past were considered the essence of plant from which they were derived. Structure of eugenol (clove oil) and eugenol acetate: Reagents: Eugenol, CH2Cl2, Br2, FeCl3, MethanolProcedure: Co-distillation We first combine 15 mL of water with 1 g of crushed, ground cloves in a 25-mL round-bottom flask. Then added a spin bar to the 25-mL round-bottom flask and assembled the microscale distillation apparatus. We made certain that the ground cloves were well wetted. We maintained the temperature of the sand bath at approximately 130 à °C and wrapped the bottom of the still with aluminum foil. Then periodically transfer the distillate from the Hickman head to a 15 mL screw cap centrifuge tube and continue the steam distillation until 5ââ¬â8 mL of distillate have been collected. Then we started the extraction process by adding 2 mL of CH2Cl3 to the waterââ¬âeugenol emulsion. Cap the tube and shake it frequently. We then allowed the layers to separate and transferred the CH2Cl2ââ¬âeugenol solution to a clean, dry 5- mL conical vial. We made sure no water was transferred in this step. Then we added 1 mL of CH2Cl2 to the waterââ¬âeugenol emulsion, cap and shake the tube. Allowed the layers to separate and transfer the CH2Cl2ââ¬âeugenol solution to the 5-mL vial used previously and made certain that no water is transferred during this step.We then added 1 mL of CH2Cl2 to the waterââ¬âeugenol emulsion and shook the tube. We allowed the layers to separate and transferred the CH2Cl2ââ¬âeugenol solution to the 5-mL vial used in previ ous step. We made certain that no water was transferred during this step. Finally we finished the co distillation process by drying the CH2Cl2ââ¬âeugenol solution with 2-3 microspatulas of anhydrous sodium sulfate. Evaporation Transfer the dried CH2Cl2ââ¬âeugenol solution to a clean, dry, tared, 5-mL conical vial. And rinse the drying agent with a few drops of CH2Cl2 and transfer CH2Cl2 rinse to the 5- mL conical vial.In a fume hood, evaporate the CH2Cl2 using a hot water bath at approximately 40 à °C max 55 à °C. Classification Test of eugenol (clove oil) The eugenol isolated will be tested for unsaturation using the Br2Test and aromaticity with the ferric chloride test. Br2 Test First we dissolved the clove oil in 2? 3 mL of methanol then added 5 drops of clove? oil solution to a test tube. Then we added few drops of Br2 reagent and gently swirled and recorded our observations. W then prepared a control slide and matched our results to it. FeCl3 testDissolved the clove o il in 2? 3 mL of methanol Added 5 drops of clove? oil solution to a test tube Added a few drops of FeCl3 solution to test tube Gently swirled and record your observation Results and Calculations: Br2 test results. Original Br2 was yellow in color but when it was added to our solution it turned colorless. This shows that we had double bonds formation. Benzene gives us double bonds. Our results matched the result we obtained when we compared with control that we had created. FeCl3 test results: Our solution turned light yellowish in color.Control was dark orange in color. Discussion: Our benzene results indicated that we had double bonds formation. Benzene gives us double bonds. Our results matched the result we obtained when we compared with control that we had created. Our FeCl3 test gave us light yellowish color solution while the control was somewhat orange. This could probably mean that we had Eugenol acetate instead of Eugenol. References: Introduction to Organic Laboratory Tech niques: A Microscale Approach. Pavia, Lampman, Kriz, and Engel. The Bible, specifically the Book of Genesis, consists of stories that seem outdated, however, these stories illustrate moral lessons that will always be applicable in life. The most prominent lesson is that people must have faith in God in order to trust Him with all of their heart. Particular instances from the lives of Abraham and Joseph provide reasons to believe God is always trustworthy. In the Abrahamââ¬â¢s story at the beginning of Genesis, God speaks directly to his people and they are able to speak directly back; by the time of Josephââ¬â¢s life, Godââ¬â¢s presence is less obvious and requires more blind faith. These timeless messages emphasize that all of Godââ¬â¢s promises are certain and that his followers must grow to faithfully trust Him. The story of Abraham gives followers reason to believe that Godââ¬â¢s promises are absolute. Abrahamââ¬â¢s biblical story follows the pattern of God testing his followersââ¬â¢ faith, blessing them and forming a binding covenant with them. Abrahamââ¬â¢s story of his faithful journey begins with God saying to him, ââ¬Å"Leave your country, your kindred and your fatherââ¬â¢s house for a country which I shall show you; and I shall make you a great nation, I shall bless you and make your name famous; you are to be a blessing!â⬠(Genesis 12:1-3) Motivated by Godââ¬â¢s offer of fame and fortune, Abraham left his home in Haran and headed to Canaan with hisShow MoreRelatedThe Bible : Finding God Essay1134 Words à |à 5 Pageswithin each book, but the main theme that encompasses the whole collection of works is the story of salvation history. Nor is there any archaeological proof that a man survived a flood by being on a boat loaded with animals, food, and drinking water. The Noahs Ark book summarized here does not claim historicity for Noah or the ark story, but the book does claim that some of the story elements in the Ancient Near East flood were based on an actual river flood. This archaeologically attested flood of the Euphrates River has been radiocarbon dated to about 2900 BC. This flood left a few feet of yellow mud in the Sumerian city Shuruppak, the ruins of which have been found at Tel Fara about 125 miles southeast of Baghdad. Some but not all Sumerian cities also show signs of this river floo d at the beginning of the Early Dynastic I period. According to the Sumerian King List, a legendary king named Ziusudra lived in Shuruppak at the time of the flood. There was also a flood myth about king Ziusudra which includes several story elements very similar to the Genesis flood myth. Shuruppak was also the flood heros city according to the Epic of Gilgamesh. The flood myth in the Epic of Gilgamesh was adapted from an earlier myth, the Epic of Atrahasis which is also very similar to the Genesis flood myth. Six of these Ancient Near East flood myths contain numerous distinctive story elements that are very similar to the Genesis flood myth and indicate a literary affinity or dependency on a common body of myths about the flood hero Ziusudra and based on the Euphrates River flood of 2900 BC. Parts of the original myths were physically possible, but other parts were not possible. The possible parts can be treated as an ancient legend to which mythical material was added later. How ever, without contemporary artifacts, it is not possible to prove how much of the original legend was true and how much was fiction based on a real flood. In the Noahs Ark book, the original legend is reconstructed by piecing together fragments from the various surviving editions of the flood myth, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. This reconstruction is governed by the requirement that each story element in the legend be physically possible, technologically practical, consistent with archaeological facts, and plausible for 2900 BC. Some of the impossible story elements were mistranslations or misunderstandings, and these are corrected before including them in the reconstructed legend. The reconstructed legend is this: Ziusudra reigned for ten years as king of Shuruppak, a Sumerian city then on the Euphrates River. Ziusudras reign was at the end of the Jemdet Nasr period that ended with the flood of 2900 BC. Then as now, river barges were used for transporting cargo on the Euphrates R iver. This cargo included livestock, beer, wine, textiles, lumber, stone, metals, dried fish, vegetable oil, and other cargo. In June about 2900 BC during the annual inundation of the Euphrates River, the river was at crest stage. A six-day thunderstorm caused the river to rise about 15 cubits (22 feet) higher and to overflow the levees. By the time the river began to rise, it was already too late to evacuate to the foothills of the mountains 110 miles away. Ziusudra boarded one the the barges that was already loaded with cargo being transported to market. The runaway barge floated down the Euphrates River into the Persian Gulf and grounded in an estuary at the mouth of the river. After moving to dry land, Ziusudra offered a sacrifice to a Sumerian god on an alter at the top of a temple ziggurat, an artificial hill. Later, story tellers mistranslated the ambiguous word for hill as mountain. The story tellers then erroneously assumed that the nearby barge must have grounded on top of a mountain. Additional details in the reconstructed legend about Ziusudra (Noah) can be found in the Noahs Ark book. home pageTour of subjectsFor Old Testament scholarsThe Noahs Ark book reviewed here does not claim historicity for Noah or the ark story, but the book does claim that some of the story elements in the Ancient Near East flood were based on an actual river flood. Some of the impossible story elements were mistranslations or misunderstandings, and these are corrected before including them in the reconstructed legend. These are some examples of mistakes: The ambiguous word for hill or country was mistranslated as mountain. The words that identified the flood as a river flood were changed to indicate an ocean deluge. The archaic number signs in which the Genesis 5 numbers and Noahs age were recorded, were mistranslated which made them about ten times their original value. The flood of Genesis 6-7 was confused with the waters of Genesis 8. A journey on foot to Mount Judi in the Mountains of Ararat was confused with a journey on the water of the Persian Gulf. The numbers in the Sumerian King List were also mistraslated by an ancient scribe. The reconstructed legend is this: Ziusudra reigned for ten years as king of Shuruppak, a Sumerian city then on the Euphrates River. Answers to Creationists argumentsNoahs flood is the keystone in the belief system of the young-earth creationists who believe the flood was global and created massive geological changes in the earths crust. But there was no global flood. Creationist arguments are printed here in boldface:According to Genesis 7:19-20 all the high mountains under the whole sky were covered with flood water. The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them 15 cubits deep. The reference to 15 cubits (22 feet) refers to the draft of the ark. Mountains is a mistranslation of the Hebrew word harm meaning hills in this context. The King James Version of Genesis 7:19 translates hills correctly. There is no mention of draft or deep or depth in the Hebrew text of Genesis 7:20. A literal translation from Hebrew is Five ten cubits upward rose the waters and they covered the hills. Note that hills is not in the same clause as cubits or rose. The 15 cubits was how much the water rose, not how deep the water was. The depths would be different at different places. The tops of the hills in the clause and they covered the hills were less than 15 cubits above the normal water level during the annual inundation and were therefore covered when the water rose 15 cubits higher. Under the whole sky means within Noahs visible horizon. All of the hills within Noahs visible horizon were covered by the water when the river rose 15 cubits. If the flood water had been more than ten thousand cubits deep, the authors of Genesis would have said so. Fifteen cubits is consistent with a local flood. The flood continued for more than one year. This cannot be reconciled with a local-flood theory. If nothing could be seen but the tops of mountains after the waters had subsided for 74 days, we must conclude that the flood covered the whole earth. All commentators have assumed that the flood mentioned in Genesis 7:6-17 was the same as the deep waters that lasted more than a year. But nowhere in Genesis 8 is the word flood mentioned. Noahs encounters with deep water were in two phases: a river flood phase that lasted less than a week and a deep water phase that lasted a year. The river flood floated Noahs barge down into the Persian Gulf and the barge floated about the deep water of the Gulf for a year. The deep water that Noah experienced for a year was not a flood; it was the deep water of the Persian Gulf. The tops of hills above the water surface are commonly called islands. If only islands could be seen after the water became more shallow for 74 days, it means only that Noahs barge was still several miles or more from the shore and dry land beyond the horizon. Deep water in the Persian Gulf for more than a year is consistent with a local river flood. According to Genesis 7:11, all the fountains of the great deep were broken up. The great deep refers to oceanic depths and underground reservoirs. Presumably, the ocean basins were fractured and uplifted sufficiently to pour water over the continents. This continued for five months. Such vast and prolonged geologic upheavals in the oceanic depths cannot be reconciled with a local flood theory. Instead this upheaval was global. The Hebrew word baqa translated as broken up in the King James version is translated burst forth in the Revised Standard Version and New International Version. The Hebrew word mayan for fountain can also mean a well or spring which share a common meaning: a source of water. References to sources of sea water breaking or bursting may have meant only that water from the Persian Gulf was bursting onto the shore during a storm. This frequently happens along a seashore during a storm. Noah and the others could not report on oceanic depths because they would have no way of knowing what was happening at oceanic depths. Bursting of Gulf water onto the shore during a thunderstorm was a local condition. The Ark was unusually large. For Noah to have built a vessel of such huge magnitude simply for the purpose of escaping a local flood is inconceivable. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked the Uni EssayCould Noah have been so ignorant of the topography of southwestern Asia, where the highest mountains of the world are located, as to actually think that the Flood covered all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens (Genesis 7:19), when it really covered only a few foothills?Noah may have known about the Zagros Mountains 110 miles east of Shuruppak. But since he could not see beyond the horizon, he would have no knowledge of whether the Zagros Mountains were flooded or not. He reported only what he could see and he could see only sky and water, because he was several miles from shore. From Noahs point of view, the whole world was flooded and all the high hills (less than 15 cubits high) were covered. Note that the word hills is used in the King James Version of Genesis 7:19. Mountains is a mistranslation in other versions of Genesis 7:19. A flood in Armenia 17,000 feet deep while Egypt or India were not flooded would be a more incredible miracle than anything implied by the traditional understanding of a universal flood. The flood water rose 15 cubits (Genesis 7:20) and had no connection with a 17,000 foot mountain. Mountains is a mistranslation. The flood covered hills not mountains. Additional creationist arguments are answered in chapter 13 of the Noahs Ark bookFrequently Asked QuestionsQuestions are in bold face. Answers are in regular type. Was Noahs flood story fiction or fact?Much of the flood story was fiction, but there was a real river flood on which the original flood legend was based. Ziusudra, the Sumerian Noah was listed in the Sumerian King List and therefore may have been a real person, but there is no hard evidence that Noah/Ziusudra existed. Was there a global flood? No. The flood of Noah was a Euphrates River flood in southern Sumer similar to the flood of 1985 in southern Iraq. The earth in Genesis 7:17-18 refers to the ground/land in the flooded region, not the entire planet. Did the ark ground on Mount Ararat? No. Mount Ararat was not involved in the original flood legend. The ark grounded in an estuary at the mouth of the Euphrates River. The mountains of Ararat got involved in the story because Noahs son Shem traveled on foot to the mountains of Ararat after the barge grounded. Story tellers confused the mountain that Noahs son visited with the hill on which Noah offered a sacrifice. The ark never came close to a mountain. But doesnt the Epic of Gilgamesh have the ark grounding on Mount Nisir? No. The word KUR usually translated Mount can mean mound or country. The river barge grounded on a mound of mud or sand in an estuary at the mouth of the river. When did the flood occur? The Euphrates River flooded about 2900 BC at the end of the Jemdet Nasr period and the beginning of the Early Dynastic period. This river flood left a few feet of yellow mud in Shuruppak and a few other Sumerian cities. Polychrome pottery from the Jemdet Nasr period was found immediately below this flood lawyer. Hence Noah/Ziusudra reigned during the end of the Jemdet Nasr period. The flood layer has been radiocarbon dated to 2900 BC. How did Noah build such a large boat without help?He had lots of help. Noah was a king and kings delegate responsibility to managers who hire workmen to do the job. Noah did not build the ark with his own hands. How could a wooden ark 450 feet long withstand the stresses from a storm and not break up?The ark was not a mono-hull galleon, it was an array of small flat-bottom pontoons roped together. Large modern river barges are also assembled from dozens of small barges chained together. What was gopher wood?Gopher wood was a transliteration of gish gipar (meadow wood) or kupar (cypress wood). How could all species of animals fit in the ark? They didnt. All of the kinds of animals that Noah had in his stockyard were put in the ark, but these were domesticated ranch animals and there were less than 280 of them. How could the animals know when to come to the ark and where to find it?The owners of the animals had their herdsmen take the animals to the ark to be transported as cargo. Noah had his herdsmen load into the barge all of the livestock in his stockyards. How did Noah prevent all the other people in his city from boarding the ark?He didnt have to. The other people climbed high hills far from the river. These hills are not mentioned in Genesis 7:19-20 because they were too far from the river for Noah to see. Did everybody drown in the flood except Noah and his family? Are all the people of of the world descended from Noah? No. Everybody did not drown. Hundreds, possibly thousands of Sumerians drowned in the flooded area, but there were many thousands of survivors of Noahs river flood, even in his own city, and especially in distant lands not affected by the flood. Did people live to be more than 900 years before the flood? No. That was an ancient mistranslation of archaic numbers. Noah lived to be 83. How could Noah know years in advance that a flood was coming to provide enough time to build the ark?The ark was not built as a lifeboat. It was built long before the flood as a commercial river barge for transporting cattle, grain, and other cargo. Noah learned that the flood was coming only when he saw heavy rain falling. This was a few hours before the river overflowed the levees. Noah did not know the flood was coming when he commissioned building the river barge. How do you explain the conflict between the 1-year flood in Genesis 8:13 and the 6-day flood in Gilgamesh XI,129-131?There is no conflict. The river flood lasted 6 days. During the rest of the year the ark was drifting about the Persian Gulf. Genesis 8 refers to the waters and does not use the word flood or ocean or sea. Legends about Noahs flood can be found all over the world, such as the Hawaiian legend about the god Kane sending a flood and only Nuu escaped in a large boat that grounded on a mountain. Doesnt this prove that Noahs flood was global? No. Wherever there are rivers there are floods and local storytellers tell stories about these local floods. Later when Europeans taught the Genesis stories to the Hawaiians, local storytellers incorporated the name Nuu and the mountain into the older Hawaiian river flood story. How did the kangaroos get from Mount Ararat to Australia? There were no kangaroos in Noahs barge. Kangaroos are not mentioned in Genesis nor in Deuteronomy 14:4-18 where the kinds of clean and unclean animals are listed. But Genesis 6:19 says every living thing.Noah loaded into the barge every living animal that he had. He did not load any animals he did not have. The 15 cubits in Genesis 7:20 must refer to the draft of the ark when it grounded on Mount Ararat and cannot refer to how much the water rose. Otherwise how could only 15 cubits of water cover mountains?Mountains were not involved. Sumer was very flat. All the hills that Noah could see were less than 15 cubits high and therefore were submerged when the water rose 15 cubits. If the flood was a local flood, why would Noah bother with a boat? Why not just move the animals and family overland to the foothills of the Zagros mountains?Your hidden assumption is that Noah knew long in advance that the flood was coming. Actually he knew the flood was coming only when heavy rain began to fall. By then it was too late to travel to the mountains that were more than a hundred miles away. How did Noah know the flood was coming?During the annual inundation, the Euphrates River was at crest stage just below the top of the levees. When Noah saw heavy rain falling in the distance, he knew the river would be rising in a few hours. He did not have to be a metorologist to understand that the river would soon overflow the levees. Why did Noah offer a sacrifice after the ark grounded? It was the duty of ship captains to offer sacrifices to the gods at a local temple when their boats arrived safely. More questions are answered in chapter 12 of the Noahs Ark book. Noah was king of ShuruppakAccording to the Genesis version of the flood story, Noah was closely associated with animals. But he was not a mere shepherd or cattle rancher. In the Epic of Ziusudra, the Sumerian Noah is repeatedly called a king or chief (lugal). According to the Weld-Blundell king list WB-62, Ziusudra (Noah) was king of the city-state Shuruppak. Lugal literally means great man and was normally a young man of outstanding qualities from a rich landowning family. The flood hero was a respected leader who spoke to the city people and the elders of Shuruppak according to Gilgamesh XI,35 and Atrahasis III,i,39-41. In the WB-62 king list, Ziusudra (Noah) succeeded his father as king of Shuruppak. The flood of 2900 B.C. deposited sediment in Shuruppak directly above artifacts from the Jemdet Nasr period. Hence, the flood hero was probably chief executive of Shuruppak during the end of the Jemdet Nasr period and the flood story began to circulate during the Early Dynastic I peri od that followed the flood. Shuruppak was then a capital city and a commercial center located on the Euphrates River. As head of the Shuruppak city-state government, Noah was probably a wealthy land owner. Wealthy people then invested in cattle and other domesticated animals and so apparently did Noah. A clue to what he did with these animals is found in Gilgamesh XI, 81-82: All I had of silver I loaded, all I had of gold I loaded into the boat. Gold and silver were not a common medium of exchange prior to minting of standard-weight coins in the seventh century BC. In earlier times, gold and silver were used largely by professional merchants and those involved in caravan trade. Possessing gold and silver, Noah was probably a merchant or government trade official before becoming chief executive of Shuruppak. Perhaps he owned a private merchanting business or managed foreign trade for his father, king of Shuruppak. Early in his career, Noah probably controlled large numbers of workers who transported livestock and other commodities in overland caravans and on small river barges to nearby cities. His workers may also have grown grain, hay and other crops near Shuruppak to feed the animals and to have surplus fodder and food to sell. Noah also had a vineyard (Genesis 9:20) which suggests he had a winery business. As a wealthy leader of the city-state Shuruppak, Noah would have access to the labor and materials needed to build a large commercial barge. Although popular versions of the story have Noah being ridiculed by the townspeople, actually the elders of Shuruppak probably encouraged and supported building of the barge under control of their own leader Noah, because they may have envisioned that the barge would substantially increase their own personal wealth and the wealth of Shuruppak. Noah promoted this vision and told the elders that the gods would shower plenty on you, an abundance of birds, a profusion of fish when the new barge became operational. For several weeks each year, Noahs barge probably hauled cargo to cities on the Euphrates River including the port city Ur then near the mouth of the river. Although surviving versions of the flood story suggest that the flood hero rode on the barge only once, and that the barge made only one voyage, it is not likely that the storm and flood happened at exactly the right moment to interrupt the barges maiden voyage. It is more likely that the barge was used many times to transport cargo, but without Noah on board. Kings have better things to do with their time than to ride on cattle barges. Only the final voyage was mentioned in the story, because that may have been one of the few times or the only time that Noah rode on the barge. huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-4799524270349071122019-12-02T04:13:00.001-08:002019-12-02T04:13:03.190-08:00Viet Nam Essay Paper Example For Students Viet Nam Essay Paper By Gerard ChretienTactics in Vietnam were an important factor in the victory of the Vietcong over the U.S. There were fundamental differences in their fighting methods, which the Vietcong were able to take full advantage of. The Vietcong used Guerrilla warfare, this meant that they used their knowledge of the area they were fighting in to hinder the U.S. The U.S army had been used to conventional warfare, in the form of bouts of fighting. Guerrilla warfare meant that they had to be constantly alert and Booby traps meant that many soldiers died and witnessed horrific deaths. This was naturally unnerving for the soldiers concerned, particularly so because many of the soldiers were young and inexperienced. The technology of the U.S was far superior to that of the Vietcong and yet it was ultimately ineffectual. One weapon, which the U.S thought would be important, was Bombs. At first the U.S bombed specific targets. When they realized that had little effect, they began blanket bombing, t his was known as Operation Rolling Thunder. Massive amounts of explosives were dropped on Vietnam, three times as much explosives was dropped than on Germany and Japan put together during World War 2. However, the Vietcong countered this with anti-aircraft guns, surface to air missiles, aid from soviet planes, and a network of tunnels. The U.S believed these to be simply to take cover from the bombing, in-fact they were also effectively used to ambush the U.S. Bombing had very little effect on the Vietcong it simply increased their determination, they in fact used it to their advantage by re-using unexploded bombs or shrapnel. The main tactic employed by the U.S was known as search and destroy. This meant hunting down and killing Vietcong. The Vietcong used a similar tactic called find and kill, although this was conceptually the same as search and destroy it was much more successful. One reason for this was that the U.S soldiers wore uniforms and were easier to pick out. Another re ason was that the U.S soldiers had to contend with Vietcong mines and booby traps. These included what was known as a Punji trap, which was a deep hole filled with spikes covered with poison of faeces. Another was the Bouncing Betty which was a mine under the soil with three prongs that when steed on would explode. It was extremely disconcerting for soldiers to know that their next step could be their last. This caused a whole host of mental problems for the U.S soldiers. Booby traps accounted for %11 of deaths and %17 of wounds in the war. The U.S used pacification, to win the hearts and minds of the South Vietnamese. This meant that help was given to the villages. Schools and hospitals were built. This policy was a success; many South Vietnamese remained in support of the Americans and were immune to the persuasive talk of communist infiltrators. However those who were already convinced as to the virtues of communism would not be swayed. The Vietcong used statistics such as the ta lly of American planes being shot down, in order to keep up morale and keep the troops faithful and devoted. The unbelievable dedication of the Vietcong soldiers was a major factor in the success of the communists. They increased their popularity by using infiltration techniques; this was very successful, as infiltrators were very hard to detect The Vietcong had a seemingly endless supply of soldiers, who would willingly die out of devotion to communism. Most Americans did not feel so strongly about the collapse of communism, and found the hell that soldiers had to go through quite unacceptable. The point is that the Vietcong were prepared for. The American population was lied to about the military strength of the Vietcong. Obviously propaganda was a vital part of getting people to join up. Lies were necessary, but they were not psychologically sound lies. The shock of finding that the Vietcong were an incredibly organized, strong and spirited fighting force crushed the morale of th e U.S. General Westmoreland (the top U.S commander in Vietnam) believed that the U.S could win a war of attrition. This was naturally unpopular with the troops and even more so with .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 , .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .postImageUrl , .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 , .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5:hover , .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5:visited , .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5:active { border:0!important; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5:active , .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5 .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u809a9296817d479af8a00fb78b2078c5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Modern Witchcraft Essay We will write a custom essay on Viet Nam Paper specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-30589642758710664412019-11-26T22:47:00.001-08:002019-11-26T22:47:03.093-08:00Free Essays on Music SupportBillions and billions of dollars later ââ¬Å"Houston, we have lift off.â⬠America has come along way in its developments thanks to the funds donated by the government, but how much are they doing to preserve our educational history? Kosmoceratops sported so many evolutionary bells and whistles on its massive skull that its a wonder it didnt topple over when it walked: this elephant-sized herbivores head was decorated with no less than 15 horns and horn-like structures of various sizes, including a pair of large horns above its eyes vaguely resembling those of a bull, as well as a downward-curving, bizarrely segmented frill completely unlike anything seen in any previous ceratopsian. As is the case with another recently discovered horned frilled dinosaur, Utahceratops, the strange appearance of Kosmoceratops can at least partially be explained by its unique habitat. This dinosaur lived on a large island in western North America, called Laramidia, that was demarcated and bordered by the shallow Western Interior Sea, which covered much of the continents interior during the late Cretaceous period. Relatively isolated from the mainstream of dinosaur evolution, Kosmoceratops, like the other fauna of Laramidia, was free to progress in its bizarre direction. The question remains, though: why did Kosmoceratops evolve such a unique combination of frill and horns? Usually, the main driver of such an evolutionary process is sexual selectionover the course of millions of years, female Kosmoceratops came to favor multiple horns and funky frills during mating season, creating an arms race among males to outdo one another. But these features may also have evolved as a way to differentiate Kosmoceratops from other ceratopsian species (it wouldnt do for a juvenile Kosmoceratops to accidentally join a herd of Chasmosaurus), or even for purposes of communication (say, a Kosmoceratos alpha turning its frill pink to signal danger). huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-45214208543788951202019-11-21T04:22:00.001-08:002019-11-21T04:22:05.586-08:00Commercial Marketing of Aloe Vera Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 wordsCommercial Marketing of Aloe Vera - Assignment Example [internet]). The two hundred plus phytonutrients are found in the gel inside the leaf. (Adams, Mike. How to Harvest Fresh Aloe Vera Gel. NaturalNews.com. [internet]). It is said that the hair can generally benefit from Aloe Vera. The plant cures the scalp from whatever it suffers by balancing the level of acidity, getting rid the pores of unclean elements and stops too much loss of hair, among others. Most of all, Aloe Vera reduces seborrhea. The rejuvenating and regenerating characteristics of Aloe Vera help make the skin constantly moist and hydrated. (Aloe Vera Plant History Uses and Benefits. DISABLED WORLD. [internet]). These are the elements which are likely the ones enhancing hair growth and rehabilitation. In an article, it is suggested that aloe juice be applied and massaged into the scalp for its good health every day before going to sleep. This must be done for a month and the application of the gel should be direct from the stem leaving the aloe on through the night. It m ay then be rinsed the next morning during shower. (Ni, Maoshing. Natural Tips for Gray Hair, Hair Loss, and Dandruff. Ask Dr. Mao. Dec 08, 2009. Yahoo! Health. [internet]). The observations seem to imply that the use of Aloe Vera as a healing medium should be in its fresh stage. This may be so because it is claimed that laboratory findings show that the ingredients of the plant no longer have beneficial effects after being processed. (Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera Guide. [internet]). It is also necessary to state here that there have been so many testimonials about the use of Aloe Vera having succeeded in re-growing hair but there is no scientific basis for this yet. (Aloe Vera. herbs at a glance. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. National Institutes of Health. [internet]). One account says that a grandmother told stories of Aloe Vera being used to treat split ends, dandruff and falling hair. (Aloe Vera Express.com. [internet]). In the international corporate environment, majority of communication is external i.e. between organisation and customers, and without effective communication strategy, organisations will be unable to recognise market demand and ultimately lose effectiveness and market position (Smith & Et. Al., 1999). The paper describes the international communication strategies of KFC, which is a famous chain of fast food restaurants. The main focus of the paper is related to how KFC uses communication models, frameworks and theories in its business as well as how the company maintains its reputation and corporate ethics through proper communication media. The objective of the paper is to understand the importance and the aspects of communication in the international business environment and the way KFC has utilised those aspects in their business. Intern ational Communication Strategy International communication strategy is based on selecting the communication modes in a specific market. It is concerned about deciding communication themes in the international business environment. The choice of communication media can be achieved in terms of uniform method which indicates the application of same tool in every nation or identical selection method for selecting communication tools and media which are active in every market. Usually, an organisation requires differentiated approach as the international culture is different from nation to nation which can impact on the usage of media or availability of media (Morschett & Et. Al., 2010). The international communication strategies of KFC are targeted towards attracting the young customer segments. There are several communication tools available for an organisation in the international market such as advertising, public relations, sales promotion, direct marketing and personal selling. (25 marks) There is certainty no evidence to suggest that the Athenians had any long-term plans, in the years 479-470 BC, to change the Delian League into an empire, although from the beginning the potential to develop into an imperial power were there. Because from the beginning, Athens had considerable power as she was the permanent hegemon. The most important aspects involving the transformation of League into empire was the changing relationships between Athens and her allies, Pericles? mperial policy, Athens selsh self interest in gaining more power by using the Leagu à power and establishing laws onto her allies such as the Coinage Degree and the Chalcis Degree. These aspects had portrayed Athens? gradual alteration of the Delian League into an imperial power. Originally the Delian League was formed as an alliance of free and equal states. At there were only two types of members of the League; those contributing ships (larger states) and those contributing money. But over time when Persian threat were no longer in sight, allied states started to leave the League. Athens then force the allies back into the League as tribute paying subject allies. This caused these states to pay tribute with nothing in return and lost their autonomy. The event with Naxos, as they were the ? rst to leave, was a warning to other ally states of the consequences of breaking the oath of the alliance. Additionally, the use of the League? s power to reduce the state Thasos to subject status because of a personal quarrel with Athens, indicated a change in the nature of the League. And by 446-445 BC, there is no longer any doubt or pretence about Athens? imperial position. Although in the beginning, the Athenians did not aim for an empire, these events did however, depicts the starting point of the transformation of League into an imperial power. Furthermore, the boost of the deteriorating relationship between Athens and her allies can be seen between 450-446, when Athens launched a system of cleruchies, which were settlements of Athenian citizens on con? scated land of subject allied states. The establishments of cleruchies had cause much resentment from other Greek states towards Athens. According to Plutarch, this system had relieve ââ¬Å"the city of a large number of idlers and agitators and raise the standards of the poorest classesâ⬠, but at the same time it implanted amongst the allies ââ¬Å"a healthy fear of rebellionâ⬠. It also allowed Athens to gain more numbers of hoplites, as only Athenian men with money can become a hoplite soldier. This had increased the military force in Athens and had strengthened Athens? old on her empire, as they were located at strategic points in the Aegean. The worsening relationship between Athens? and her allies in the League is due to Athens? sel? sh self interest in developing her imperial power, and this had allow Athens to gradually grow into an empire. This sel? sh self interest can be seen after the Peace of Callias. At the aim of the League was, according to Thucydides, ? to compensate themselves for their losses by ravaging the territory of the King of Persia? but in 449 BC Persian lost the battle against Cimon in Cyprus and signed a peace treaty called à Peace of Callias. Although this meant that the League? s aim had been fullled, the Athenians argued that the Persians would strike again if the Greeks appeared weak. This argument from Athens had an underlying aim, that was so the Greeks states would not leave the League, or else Athens would lose its? power as hegemon and to continue to pay tribute to the League, or in a more accurate sense, to Athens. Athens? gradual sense of alteration of League to empire is also seen in Pericles? imperial policy. The end of the war with Persia and the 5 year truce with Sparta confronted Pericles with a major problem. Thousands of soldiers and sailors, previously away on summer campaigns and supported by League funds, were now unemployed. He used the Temples on the Acropolis that had been in ruins since the second Persian invasion as a way to deal with all the unemployments. However this required funds. Pericles then called on a Panhellenic conference of all Greek states of the mainland and the Aegean to discuss the rebuilding of all temples destroyed by the Persians and the security of the Aegean sea as an underlying intention to get support for the rebuilding of Athens? temples and for the recognition of the Athenian navy as protector of the Aegean. This excuse used by Pericles was to force the allies to continue their contributions in order to further his policies of carrying out a building program, developing democracy, and maintaining Athenian forces over a wide area. Plutarch records how Pericles? enemies, denounced his actions as ââ¬Å"barefooted tyrannyâ⬠. Pericles replied that ââ¬Å"the Athenians were not obliged to give an account of how the allies? money was spentâ⬠, and as long as Athens provided the services paid for, she could use the surplus any way she wished. Therefore, the tribute from allies was not used for the Delian League, but to be used for Athens? interest in building up their city. By passing out laws, it had restricted Athens? allies of their freedom by obliging to Athens? rule. This is seen when Athens had passed out a Coinage Decree in 450-446 BC, enforcing uniformity of coinage, weights and measures among the members of the League. This measures had made trade much easier to handle, it was a further example of the allies? loss of freedom. Furthermore, the Chalcis Decree, issued after the Euboean cities revolted, required the inhabitants to take an oath ââ¬Å"not to revolt against the Athenian demosâ⬠and ââ¬Å"to be obedient to the Athenian demosâ⬠, which revealed no doubt that the original members of the League were now very much subjects of an imperial power. In conclusion, Athens? gradual transformation of the Delian League into the Athenian Empire can be seen in the deterioration of her relationship with her allies due to her arrogant actions on bene? ting her own interests, Pericles? imperial policy which further his policies of carrying out a building program, developing democracy, and maintaining Athenian forces over a wide area, but also the establishing of laws onto her allies such as the Coinage Degree and the Chalcis Degree. There is no evidence to say that the Athenians had any long-term plan in turning the League into an Empire, but according to Thucydides, Athens had ââ¬Å"three very powerful motives security, honour and self-interestâ⬠, which were the reasons why the Athenians took control of an empire. These events and actions by Athens had led the Delian League, which was once an alliance of free and equal states, into a tyrannical imperial power known as the Athenian Empire. huypamadpods1987http://www.blogger.com/profile/09852216263416473491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921374361730321290.post-37431058159394388842019-11-14T20:26:00.001-08:002019-11-14T20:26:03.099-08:00Athletes, and Sports - Benefits of Supplements in Athletic Training Ess Athletic Benefits of Supplements The Development of drugs and supplements used by mankind has evolved from what it once was in its early stages of existence.
